Wolverine Wine of the Week!

Happy January! It’s time to stock up on Wente wines! Andy highly recommends these tasty treats for your sipping pleasure. Wente Vineyards is the country's longest, continuously operated family-owned winery, founded in 1883. Blending traditional and innovative winemaking practices, they draw from their estate vineyards in the Livermore Valley and Arroyo Seco, Monterey appellations to create an outstanding portfolio of fine wines. They are recognized as one of California’s premier wine country destinations.
The Wetmore Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful representation of the Charles Wetmore Vineyard in the Livermore Valley. Notes of violets and chocolate that lick the palate. A round, velvety mouthfeel with sturdy, slightly dusty tannins. Elegant from start to finish, with earthy undertones and ripe blackberry. Acidity keeps it bright. Regular price: $24.99. On sale for $24.99.
The Morning Fog Chardonnay bursts with aromatics from citrus, lemon curd, pear and toasty oak. This wine is balanced by hints of vanilla and citrus on the palate, finishing with a nice acidity. Regular price $15.99. On sale for $11.99.
The Sandstone Merlot has inviting notes of ripe fig and pomegranate, with a hint of sandalwood. This delicious Merlot bursts with berry flavors from cranberry, grilled cherry and acai, finishing with a nice lingering acidity. Regular price: $16.99. On sale for $12.99.
The Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon welcomes you with aromatics of warm baking spices. On the palate this wine delivers ripe blackberry and fig with round, smooth tannins. Regular price: $16.99. On sale for $12.99.
Andy has been working on getting the wine bar open again. He is preparing the decks for outside wine tasting. Keep an eye on www.andyswinebar.net for more information or check out the Facebook page for up to date postings.

Meet Andy!
Andy Bakko opened Wolverine Market in 1991 knowing the beer and wine business was his next big thing, and he’s making the most of it.
A few years ago, what started as a fun trip with the some representatives from a wine company turned into a much larger endeavor. This trip involved the group taking the Level I Introductory Sommelier Course & Exam. Much studying was done beforehand, and everyone in the group passed the test—not a small feat.
Nobody else in the group continued the adventure to achieve a Master Sommelier title, but Andy caught the bug. He recently passed the second test, Level II Certified Sommelier Exam, and is close to passing the Level III Advanced Sommelier Course & Exam. Once he passes the Level III test, he’ll be one step away from achieving the Master Sommelier certification.
At the start of 2009, just 171 people in the world held that certification. Andy is the only advanced sommelier in the Blue Water Area and he doesn’t take it lightly. He very much enjoys hosting wine, beer and liquor tastings to share his knowledge with his customers, and he works very hard to bring the latest and greatest into the store.
“The more we know, the more we can share with our customers—the more we can help our customers. Our goal always is to provide the best service possible. Our customers are the most important part of our business—we learn as much from them as we hope they do from us.” ~ Andy Bakko
